Set Yourself Apart

SET YOURSELF APART ON & OFF THE COURT // HURRICANES BASKETBALL

“Competing goes beyond sports. Competing is about life.”

Each day you step on the court you have the opportunity to compete in a way that sets yourself apart from the competition.  You are determined to work towards improving your skills by putting in the long, hard hours needed to push beyond perceived limits. You lead by example, dive for every lose ball, drill the uncomfortable, give 100% of the 50% you have left, and fight past the desire to let up because you know that every moment counts.

You do what others wont. You communicate direction. You take charges. You point at your teammate after a great pass. You practice outside of practice. You see the off-season as the best opportunity to prepare for the in-season. You win the mental battle. You make your weak hand strong and your strong hand stronger. You run the extra mile. You do an extra rep. You make the last shot. You make the other team change their game plan because of the impact you’re having on the game. You leave it all out on the court, giving it every ounce of all you have left. And because so, you have become a difference-maker. You have become a game-changer. You stand out. You have set yourself apart from the rest.

Life is no different. You approach your faith, relationships, academic goals, and passions with a sense of continued focus and energy in nurturing them because these are things you value. You see a parallel of opportunity between the life you lead on the court and off of it. You model character and integrity. You handle frustrations and disappointment with maturity from life lessons that only competition can provide. You love well. You put others before yourself. You do not take for granted the family you are lucky to have. You invest in your relationships and give them your time because you know that time is one of the most important gifts you can give them.  You chase after your dreams, people, and values you hold so dear. You shape minds and mold hearts. You leave a lasting impression on those you interact with. You cause people to question why they have not met many others like you. You approach relationships and life in a way that’s different and those around you notice. You lead in a way we are all called to live. And because so, you touch the lives of many.

You have set yourself apart.
